May 2020: Worship Themes

 

May 3, 2020: Fourth Sunday of Easter

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:11-17 – The life we are to live.

Focus Verse:   “Be careful to live properly among your unbelieving neighbors.  Then even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will give honor to God when he judges the world.”  (1 Peter 2:12)

Theme:  As Christians, we are called to live holy, respectable lives.

 

May 10, 2020:        Fifth Sunday of Easter

Scripture: 1 Peter 2:6-10.  The people of God doing good in the world.

Focus Verse: “…For you are a chosen people.  You are a royal priests, a holy nation, God’s own possession.  As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

Theme: We are called to demonstrate God’s goodness to the world.

 

May 17, 2020:        Sixth Sunday Easter

Scripture: 1 Peter 3:13-17.  Knowing why we believe.

Focus Verse:  “You must worship Christ as Lord of your life.  And if someone asks you about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it.”  (1 Peter 3:15)

Theme:  We need to be ready to explain why we put Jesus first in our lives.

 

May 24, 2020:        Ascension Sunday.

Scripture: Acts 1:1-11 The promise of the Holy Spirit

Focus Verse:  “During the forty days after his crucifixion, he appeared to the apostles from time to time, and he proved to them in many ways that he was actually alive.  And he talked to them about the Kingdom of God.”  (Acts 1:3)

Theme:  For 40 days, Jesus appeared to his disciples and prepared them for the future.

 

May 31, 2020:        Pentecost Sunday.

Scripture: Acts 2:1-21 The Holy Spirit comes

Focus Verse:  “’In the last days,’ God says, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people.  Your sons and daughters will prophesy.  Your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams.”  (Acts 2:17)

Theme:  Believers are filled with the Holy Spirit and given the power to live for and speak about Jesus Christ.
