It’s hard to believe that summer is drawing to a close. All the telltale signs are here! The sun sets earlier, the ‘Back to School’ sales are in full swing, and a few leaves have even started to turn. Soon we will be in the midst of the hectic days of fall!
As we say good-bye to the long, lazy days of summer, I’m curious to know what you will miss the most. Did you have a vacation that was particularly fun? Did you spend time at the beach or go on a hike or cook some really great food on the grill? Summer is a good time for an adventure and I hope you’ve had at least a couple!
As someone once said, “There are two kinds of adventurers: those who go truly hoping to find adventure and those who go secretly hoping they won’t.” I have to admit that I am usually the latter kind of adventurer. I like a little adventure, but not too much!
Yet, I want to suggest that we bring some of that ‘sense of adventure’ into the fall. There are exciting things happening at South UMC this September:
~ If you’ve never been part of an Adult Sunday School class, this may be your year!
~ If you’ve never visited a worship service other than ‘your own,’ now’s your chance!
~ If you’ve always thought about being a Sunday School teacher,
but never done it, we need to talk!
~ Spirit Sunday (September 7th) is your chance to connect with your church
at your point of passion!
There are many opportunities to try new things this fall at South UMC. Don’t lose that summer ‘sense of adventure’ as you get back into your fall routine. As the Nobel Prize winner Andre Gide suggests, “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Jump in and don’t look back!
